Hanks’ Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) is a buffer comprised of inorganic salts and supplemented with glucose as an energy source. HBSS is commonly used in a variety of cell applications such as washing, diluting, and transporting cell or tissue samples. HBSS provides a buffering system designed to uphold relevant physiological pH and osmotic balance for cells maintained in non-CO2 atmospheric conditions as well as provide your cells with water and essential inorganic ions.
